Hello all,
I am back from an out-of-town wedding [and happy to be home] and ready to get caught up on what sports I missed this weekend. Below are the weekend recaps:
TEXAS RANGERS:
Friday was a rain-out, then the Rangers followed up with 2 losses to the Mariners. It is becoming critical that we put together a consistent winning streak if we are to have any shot of a post-season bid. Both the Red Sox and the Angels keep winning, and we have to keep pace and hope we can overtake them by the end. We start another home series with Oakland this week before the Angels come to town this coming weekend, and a sweep of both series would be monumental for us [now, I don't think this is likely, but I am trying to be positive here].
TEXAS TECH RED RAIDERS:
The Raiders beat Rice this past weekend. Since I didn't get to watch or listen to the game, I can only go off what my mom told me and what I have read on the Internet. To me we started a bit slow [which is typical], then clicked in the second half. The best news for me was that Potts made adjustments from week 1 and ended up with 7 TDs and 0 INTs. Not bad, not bad at all....now the bad news is we go straight to Austin to play #2 Texas this coming weekend. I hate that we play them so early this season, and my hope is for a competitive game on Saturday.
DALLAS COWBOYS:
I DVR'd this game so I was able to watch it last night and saw some good and bad elements in game 1 against Tampa Bay. First, special shout out to the Special Teams...I know it is only the first game, but we had some good returns, 3 punts they couldn't return, and a blocked FG attempt. So far, a much improved unit than we saw last season. Another positive, after a lackluster first half, Tony Romo and Co. woke up and got the offense rolling in the second half with some pretty long passing TDs and 1 rushing TD by Barber to cap the victory. The not-so-good was the defense...we have the talent to dominate by position, and should have against a team trying to find a new identity. Especially the run defense giving up that many yards makes me nervous to face NYG next week.
