After fighting for a starting spot at right guard with Kynan Forney throughout training camp, Louis Vasquez is now the unquestioned starter. Forney was released, leaving little experienced depth at the position.
"It came as a shock to me," Vasquez said. "He's a good guy and a veteran. I really didn't know what to think."
Vasquez is now focused on playing beyond his years and shoring a problem position as the only rookie in the Chargers' current starting lineup.
"(Offensive line coach Hal) Hunter said early in camp that he's going to coach me as a veteran," Vasquez said. "He expects a lot of me, and I'm just going to continue to learn and grow as a player and take care of my responsibilities. ... This is my dream job, and I feel blessed to have this opportunity. I'm going to contribute however I can and help this offense go."
