The two teams square off in a three-game set at Fenway Park starting tonight. So who should you pull for if you're a Rangers fan? To answer it, you must decide which team you feel the Rangers have the best chance of catching. And, of course, it means the Rangers must put together some wins against the A's.
One major consideration is head-to-head matchups. The Rangers don't face Boston anymore this season. But they do have 7 more games against the Angels before the season is done (in final 19 games). That's a great chance to pick up ground without scoreboard watching.
But let's also look at the remaining schedules for the two teams:
Boston: 3 vs. LAA, 3 at Baltimore, 4 at Kansas City, 3 at NYY, 3 vs. Toronto, 4 vs. Cleveland.
LAA: 3 at Boston, 3 at Texas, 3 vs. NYY, 3 vs. Oakland, 4 vs. Texas, 3 at Oakland.
Based on the head-to-head matchups and the schedules, does pulling for Boston make the most sense? I think it does. Despite being closer to Boston in the standings (4 1/2 back as opposed to 6 back of Anaheim), the Angels have a tougher schedule (I think) down the stretch and the Rangers get to face them 7 times.
So I would pull for Boston and hope the Rangers can make up ground against the Angels in the 7 games they have left with them. Do you agree?
