- Scott Feldman for 2009 Cy Young? Sounds crazy to mention a Rangers' pitcher in the same sentence as the coveted pitching award, but this year Scott Feldman has put together some impressive numbers to warrant being in the discussion. Tonight he only allowed one run in 6 2/3 innings and won his seventh straight road start, 11th road game this season and 15th win overall. He is only behind Sabathia and Verlander in total wins this year and has an ERA of 3.62. Now, it probably won't be enough for him to win it this year, but to see a Rangers pitcher be this consistent is remarkable.
- Cruz does it again...Nelson Cruz added to his homerun total this year by knocking out his 31st homer of the year in the top of the 6th to make the score 5-1. Nellie has shown us he has the power, but can he keep it up and use it when we need it.
- I heart Feliz! This kid continues to impress the heck out of me with his major league poise and his fastball. He came in to relieve Feldman in the 7th and stayed in to close out the game for his second save of the season.
- Winning without the stars...I love that this team plays hard every day and finds ways to win even without the franchise faces of Young and Hamilton, who are both out right now with injuries. Ballclubs that can find any way to win no matter who is put out on the field are clubs that usually make it to the postseason.
- Weird moment of the night: Feldman had to stop pitching in the middle of the 2nd inning when he was ordered to change gloves because the Orioles manager complaned about the light color of it was distracting his hitters. Seriously...he felt Feldman's glove was too close to the color of the ball and was an advantage against his hitters. Later on, Washington elected payback on a Baltimore reliever who was wearing a glove the exact color of Feldman's original one - making him trade it for a darker one just like Feldman had to. God, I love baseball!
Well, the Angels won their game, but the Red Sox got stomped by the White Sox, so the standings are now:
AL WEST
Angels --
Rangers 3.5
AL WILD CARD
Red Sox --
Rangers 2.0
